Independent Bar and Kitchen

Independent Bar and Kitchen

Dallas, Texas

We're making up for lost time Dallas! Tameca and I had an event to work together, so we decided to have lunch afterwards and try another new spot for you!

We went back to Deep Ellum, the place to be! We came across Independent Bar and Kitchen and decided to give it a try.

First let me say this, it was 2 in the afternoon on a Wednesday, so it was pretty empty... what do you expect, everyone is at work and we were off early! Yay for us!

So this bar and kitchen is right on the corner on Main in Deep Ellum. It's super cute as you walk through the outside dining first and then into the restaurant and bar with brick interior, cool modern booths and a small pretty fresh flower(s) at each table! Oh and come as you are!

Our waitress was great but we were probably the only ones there besides the people at the bar!

We checked the menu out before we went in, it's posted on the wall in a frame outside! Love that! So we knew what we wanted before we were seated!

We had been outside most of the day at a camp and I was so hot, the temp I believe was 105 so yeah... I really didn't want a hot meal! I ordered the turkey sandwich. It consists of turkey pastrami, cranberry jam, LTOP, house bacon and mustard sauce on sourdough with thin fries. I almost always just get water with my meal, so this is why my bill is always cheaper than Tameca's.... hence the one dollar sign!

Our food came very prompt! I have to say.....I really liked my sandwich!!! It was very good, the sauce was key and their house bacon had a very good seasoning added to it! Overall a winner for me today!

I enjoyed the atmosphere and as usual if you could only hear our conversations! "Too twisted for cable tv"!

Until next time....(cuz I will be back!)

So this Saturday we decided it was time for brunch back in the Bishop Arts district, as we had planned to dine there for you guys at least a few more times!

Tameca had heard that Jonathon's was the spot! It sure did seem to be true, it was busy and by the time we were seated it was packed with a line waiting for seats!
You can dine inside which is a small area or outside which seems more roomy!
It was a hot one so we dined inside!

I admit I wasn't very hungry and thought I would take the safe route by ordering their biscuit and gravy!
Our waitress was nice, very busy but still managed to stay on point.
While we waited for our food I had a hot cup of tea and Tameca had a "drank", check her blog for details!
It didn't take too long for our food to arrive, and when it did I was pleasantly surprised by the presentation, different presentation is always appealing!

However, yes I know I can be hard to please, but I didn't like my food! 😟
The biscuits were dry, the sausage just had a strange taste and there wasn't enough gravy. The gravy wasn't bad but overall just didn't do it for me!

We sat next to a cute young couple that graciously took our pics and had heard this was a best spot in the area. (Something was funny....!)

I may have just ordered the wrong thing but I will not be returning!
Cute spot, nice social spot as well. Food....not my fav!
Until next time....

For lunch last Thursday we hit up the Gas Monkey Bar and Grill.  The restaurant is family friendly establishment with cool garage themed decor.  It was lunchtime so there wasn't a crowd.  It was super hot so we sat inside.  We were seated right away.  Our server was taking our order minutes after we took our seat. (Well she tried, we asked her to come back twice because we were running our mouth)

I ordered the appetizer Hog on a log.  Which is bacon on skewers served over a funnel cake drizzled with sweet sauce.  Yes, Yes and Yes! Scrumptious.  The bacon was thick sliced and mouth watering good!  I only ate half of the funnel cake but I ate all my bacon!!

My God, My God!

For my entree I had the baby back ribs with french fries and fried green beans.  The baby back ribs are served blackened.  They were tender and very well seasoned.  The fried green beans are not battered type green beans but more like cooked in oil with bacon.  Which was fine with me because that is how I make them at home.  (nothing healthy about them..sorry)

For my drink I had a sweet tea... I know surprising.  It was early in the day and I had lots of running around to do so I was being good.

I liked everything I ordered.  After we ate we headed over to their shop inside the restaurant.  I bought a Gas Monkey sticker for my computer (i have been obsessed with stickers lately) and Catherine bought a baseball hat for the hubs.

All in all, cool place to dine.  Lots of great spots for selfies that we took advantage of!  Staff was friendly and welcoming.  Unfortunately Richard Rawlings fyne self was not there.  I will be back. Next time I will bring the kiddos.

We had Saturday Brunch at Jonathon's.  I had already been forewarned to get there early because the line wraps around the building.  We arrived around 10:30 and were seated right away.  There was patio and inside dining.  Inside, please.  Even at 10:30 in the morning that Texas heat is a killa!  Sure enough about 15 minutes after we arrived the line started.  We made it just in time.

Jonathon's is an old house converted into a restaurant.  Very close quarters. So not a place to come share secrets with your brunch date.  The atmosphere was fun and inviting.  There was every social and economic representative present.  Basically some of everybody was in da house!  I love places like that.  I looked around to see what others had for drinks.  The ladies next to me where drinking this purple drink.  I checked the menu and there it was "Purple Drank".  I'll have that! Hmmm, it was alright.  I should have stuck to my Mimosa.  It was way too early for liquor.  I didn't finish it.

I ordered the All in one Waffle.
Belgian Waffle with Bacon Baked Inside and Topped with Scrambled Eggs, Pork Sausage, Caramelized Onions, Green Chiles, Cheddar, Chef Jon’s Peppered Gravy, Hot Sauce Drizzle.

They ain't never lied.  It was all in one!  You know those people who don't like to mix their food on their plate or to have them touching?  Well that person is ME!  So this was a bit much.  I get the concept but it was a lot going on, on my plate.  The flavor was good but I would have been better off ordering separate items.

I think I will be back but next time maybe I will just get the chicken and waffles.

We're back!!!!
So we were out and about this past Thursday and we decided we needed to food blog!
We were close to Gas Monkey so we decided that's where we will dine! I admit I have been here one time before but Tameca had not.

If you watch the show Fast N' Loud filmed at Gas Monkey Garage, this is his restaurant.... it's a big thing here and the restaurant is pretty cool.

Everything about it screams Gas Monkey, it's a cool laid back atmosphere with indoor and outdoor dining. It's a bar and grill with live music concerts as well.
We went for lunch so no live music, but that will be next on my agenda.

The menu is American and some pretty decent choices, but I just wanted the Gas Monkey Garage burger and fries.

The service was good and it was on my previous visit as well.
What I love is the dim lighting and the cool signage.
Afterwards we did a little shopping in their little store because you can never have too many hats!
(I'm the hat lady!) Most people buy at least a souvenir to show they've been there!

Tameca and I had some catching up to do so we had a lot to talk about! I always feel bad for anyone near us because we have no filters around each other and our stories are rarely G rated!

My lunch was good, a little greasy but sometimes you need that!
I will be back for some live music!

Pier 247

Pier 247

This past weekend we went to the Bishop Arts District for the Art Bazaar and then of course we dined! We chose Pier 247 which is a "seafood spot with southern style dishes".
This restaurant has indoor and outdoor dining and as you know we always choose outdoor if its nice out....and it was!

We picked a spot to sit and our waitress came right over and took our order, she had a pleasant and friendly attitude! I was able to joke around with her too!

I chose a pasta, the Shrimp & Bacon Mac & Cheese! SOUNDS GOOD RIGHT?! It consists of sautéed shrimp with bacon-Gruyere-white cheddar-parmesan.

My meal was as delicious as it looks! I was very pleased, which for me isn't usually the case. Oh yeah, clearly I went off my gluten free diet as of late, so I went for it!!!

I was very hungry and Tameca didn't order a big meal, so I ate fast but we always stay and chat and enjoy the atmosphere! It's a fun and casual place to dine.

The weather was beautiful and the area is very cool to visit! My only problem was it was very windy and my hat kept blowing away.....fashion first! LOL

I enjoyed Pier 247 and would definitely come back! (I didn't take many pics this time, so check out Tameca's review for more!)

This past Sunday we tried Pier 247 in the Bishop Arts District.  It was a beautiful day so we chose patio dining.  (Big Surprise right?)  The atmosphere was fun and welcoming.  Our waitress was this cool hip chick with pink hair.  We chatted so much that she even gave us shopping advice for cool shoes out of the UK!
Me getting my Top Model pose on! HA!

I ordered the Life Preserver for my beverage which is Hurricane & Margarita Layered w/Melon & Blackberry Liquors. Taste just like candy!  I had TWO!

Two Straws, yeah I had to share!

For my meal I had a cup of crawfish e'tou fee'.  It had shrimp in it as well (winning)!  It was fantastic. The service was great and prompt.  Although we were finished with our meal pretty quickly we stayed and visited for almost two hours.

I had dug in before I remembered to take the pic!

Pier 247 is a great place to dine.  I enjoyed my entire experience.  I will be back if not for anything else for the Life Preserver.. It gave me life! :)

Cheese!
