Alligator Cafe

I wanted to try some Cajun/Creole this past weekend.  Before we started doing the blog my favorite restaurant was Razzoo's, so the opportunity to try some other Cajun spots was just what was on the menu! (get it on the menu) Yes, I know I am a bit corny!!

There is an Alligator Cafe right down the street from my house in Deep Ellum.  We met up there.  Unfortunately, they were temporarily closed.  They did however have a sign on the door stating that we could dine at their Casa Linda location on Garland Road.  So that is where we headed.  I had my heart set on Cajun!

We got to the location about 8:00pm.  It was fairly crowded.  We only had to wait a few minutes for a table.  Mainly to accommodate our party.  I brought the crew with me for this outing.  So it ended up being seven of us.  Catherine brought her husband Andrew.

Upon arriving the band wasn't playing.  They were set up, so I think they were just on a break.  Ten minutes into being seated they got started.  Nice band, played classics.

Since I had my crew with me we had two appetizers.  We tried the fried green tomatoes and the fried pickles. I loved the fried green tomatoes, very flavorable.  I wasn't a big fan of the fried pickles. They were made with sour pickles which made them rather salty.

Our waitstaff was fast and efficient.  Just how I like them.  We had two people helping our table due to the size of the party.  Our entrees came out fast and piping hot!

Now for the good stuff!
I ordered the Shrimp Etouffe.  It was soooo good!  Loved it, Loved it, Loved it! The sauce was magnificent!  My only complaint was not enough rice to go with all that sauce.  I am a rice eater so I may be a bit bias on that note.  No worries, I had plenty left to take home and make more rice for! My drink for the evening was a Hurricane, no surprise there I am sure.  It was okay, they only serve it on the rocks. I usually drink them frozen so it lasts longer.  Needless to say I needed water by the time my meal came!

The atmosphere is fun and carefree.  Very noisy, so not a place to go on a first date.  A few times while the band was playing I caught myself screaming to talk to one of my boys but.. I do that anyway so no biggie for me! :)

All in all, I enjoyed Alligator Cafe and will return.  More than likely it will be at the Deep Ellum location only because it is closer.

Friday night we decided to try some Cajun food @ the Alligator Cafe!

The night started off a bit rough, we went to their Deep Ellum location and it was closed for remodeling, but Tameca was dead set on eating there so we drove to their Garland Road cafe!

Normally it's girls night but I brought the hubby and Tameca brought the kids!
Upon arriving I thought the cafe was small but decorated festively! There was a small corner for the live band, which I must say, they were a hit! There is a bar and an side outdoor eating area as well. Again, it's small so you will be close to your neighbor, so no secrets will go unheard!

So let's get to the food, I decided to order the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer because I was starving and I always love those wherever I go! I must say they were delicious!  Oh yeah and I got a sweet tea of course!
For my entrée I got the blackened tilapia, "fresh tilapia blackened with their signature spice, topped w lots of shrimp in rich creamy shrimp sauce with white rice".  My food arrived pretty promptly and looked very appetizing however, I did not like the fish at all, it was far too "fishy" tasting for my liking. The sauce, shrimp and rice was fair to good, so I ate that and left the tilapia!
If you choose to dine here you will be entering little New Orleans because their menu is very authentic in my opinion!

Overall I enjoyed the atmosphere, my appetizer, the company and loved the band! I always feel like a fun Friday night should include music and food together!

I don't think Cajun food has ever been a favorite of mine, I admit I have a sensitive palate, so the likelihood of me returning is slim to not happening! Plus I never got any refills on my sweet tea, so make sure you ask for refills!
